  1. Installation Notes
  2. (This Read Me file can be seen from the Install program and by double-
  3. clicking on the ReadMe icon in the Program Group.)

  5. Configuring the screen saver
  6. The Installation program installs the screen saver by copying the 
  7. program files to your hard disk.  You now need to run the screen saver 
  8. Configuration program to select the screen saver and wallpaper options 
  9. you want.

  11. To run the screen saver Configuration program, double-click on the 
  12. screen saver Config icon in the newly created Program Manager group.  
  13.  
  14. You will probably want to reconfigure the screen saver from time to time 
  15. for variety.

  18. Uninstalling the screen saver
  19. You can uninstall the screen saver and its media files by running the 
  20. ScreenWorks Uninstall program and selecting the uninstall option.

  23. Password Protection and Security
  24. Although the screen saver provides password protection, this protection 
  25. can be readily bypassed by simply rebooting your PC.  You should never 
  26. use the screen saver as a means of protecting secret or confidential 
  27. information.

  29. QTW with STB Lightspeed video cards
  30. You may experience problems with displaying the movie in the Calendar 
  31. program, or when running the Screensaver or Screensaver Config program.
  32. Edit the QTW.INI file in your Windows directory and change the       "Optimize=driver" line to read "Optimize=BMP". Reboot your computer and
  33. try again.

  35. QTW with Compaq Q-Vision:
  36. Call Compaq customer service (800-345-1518), BBS (713-378-1418), or 
  37. Compuserve--GOCOMPAQ for updated drivers.

  40. Scaling QuickTime Movies:
  41. If you scale the QuickTime movies up (make them bigger), we suggest 
  42. you scale them to 200%, and not intermediate percentages like 147%, 
  43. 183%, etc., to avoid adversely affecting the performance of your video 
  44. playback.  On the other hand, you safely may use any percentage you 
  45. wish when scaling movies down (making them smaller).

  48. Minimum System Requirements
  49. The screen saver will not run correctly if your system does not satisfy 
  50. the minimum system requirements, which are:
  51.  
  52.      DOS Version 3.3 or better
  53.      Windows Version 3.1 or better (Enhanced mode)
  54.      80386 20 MHz processor or better
  55.      4 MB memory or better
  56.      256 Color VGA or better
  57.  
  58. The Installation program automatically verifies these requirements, so 
  59. you should not have any problems (aside from possible QuickTime 
  60. problems) if Installation ran successfully.  
  61.  
  62. If your system does not satisfy the minimum requirements, you will need 
  63. to address any problems before running the Installation program again.  
  64. If necessary, you can check your system by running any of the following 
  65. utilities:

  67.      Microsoft Diagnostics
  68.         -MSD.EXE in the Windows subdirectory
  69.      Symantec Norton Utilities' System Info
  70.      Central Point PC Tools System Info

  73. Audio Support
  74. A 16-bit audio card is recommended for audio support.  An 8-bit card 
  75. may work, but may not play QuickTime videos well.
  76.  
  77. Although the screen saver can run without an audio card, you cannot 
  78. hear sound effects or video sound tracks without audio support.  You 
  79. can obtain low quality audio support by using the PC Speaker audio 
  80. driver, which can be downloaded from CompuServe.  This driver can 
  81. play audio files but not video sound tracks.

  83. To obtain this file from CompuServe, type "GO MSUSER", select the 
  84. Microsoft Software Library, search for "PC Speaker", and download the 
  85. file SPEAK.EXE.

  88. Multiple CD-ROM Drives
  89. The screen saver and calendar programs search for media files using 
  90. the CD-ROM drive letter that you installed from.  If you have more than 
  91. one CD-ROM drive, be sure to put the Cedco CD-ROM in the drive you 
  92. installed from if you want to use media files on that CD-ROM.

  95. Norton Desktop For Windows
  96. The screen saver is not compatible with the Sleeper screen saver 
  97. program included with Norton Desktop For Windows.

  100. TroubleShooting
  101. Virtual memory is essential for running properly in low memory 
  102. situations.  Make sure that virtual memory is turned on in the 386 
  103. Enhanced Control Panel.
